After a 1 year of absence from the weekend camp at Gozo, this
time we were determined to organise this weekend camp. Infact
this was held between Friday 7th December and
Sunday 9th December 2007.
We were lodging at the Victoria Head quarters in Rabat. We
started the weekend by lots of preparation, and on Thursday
we asked all parents, who had their children coming to this
camp, to bring over their equipment to the HQ so that we
could start packing everything in our vehicles.
On Friday morning at 7:00am sharp we (Akela, Bagheera and
Singum) left Birzebbuga on our destination to Gozo. We
arrived at Gozo at around 9:00am. From there we went
straight to the Victoria HQ and after we removed all
equipment from our vehicles we started with the camp
preparation like buying the food and also getting the HQ
setup. At around 8:30pm we had a phone call and Baloo
advised us that they were boarding the Gozo vessel, so we
decided to go to Mgarr harbour to greet the 11 cubs at their
arrival to Gozo. This was the official start time of the
camp.
Back to the HQ dinner was prepared and served (hot dogs and
chips), followed by a good film prepared by Raksha and
Bagheera.
Saturday morning we woke up with breakfast and soon after we
went off to some cultural visits. The weather was not so
good therefore we decided to go somewhere within reach of
our cars. Our first visit was to Citadella. There we
visited the Folklore Museum.
After the folklore museum we went straight to Xerri’s Grotto
to see the Stalagmites and Stalactites. Following this
visit was Ninu’s Cave. This cave is nearly the same as
Xerri’s grotto but with the difference that the latter goes
more back in time.
Our final cultural visit was to the toy museum which hosts
lots of toys that our great grand parents used to play with.
Now the weather was getting worse and we had to gather
inside. Once inside the cubs had lots of crafts to do. One
of these crafts was cooking some biscuits for the party
which was held in the evening. Keneu, Rakhsa, Bagheera and
Singum helped out the cubs in this activity under the
supervision of our Leader Akela. Meanwhile Baloo was in the
kitchen with other helpers preparing for dinner.
Sunday soon arrived and it was time to start packing our
equipment but not before we all went to Mass. Then after
breakfast all helped to get things packed. After lunch we
headed back to Malta and arrived at our HQ at around 5:00pm,
there we found the parents waiting for their children to
arrive back and some time to describe the good time we all
spent together.
On behalf of Akela and all the leaders I would like to thank
all those cubs who attended this camp. They really behaved
well. They were simply the best.
Keep it up Cubs
