On 20th January at 7am we met at our hq to gather
our tents and maps. Our group consisted of Reuben Testa,
Christian Carabott, Valentina Desira, Denise Bugeja, myself
and our SL Josephine Gatt. Around 8am Mario, our SL’s
husband drove us all to Mgarr and at 9am we started our
journey, through Bingemma, Landrijiet and all the way to
Dingli. Throughout our walk we took photos of the lovely
scenery, talked, sang songs and laughed ourselves silly, not
to mention some grumbling!! Although I was careful about
the items I packed in my rucksack, it was still a bit heavy
for a great guy like me!! Moreso, when you consider that we
had chosen the worst and warmest day in January. The
temperature rose to 21 deg C – so warm that we had to
takeoff our jackets.
At 1.30pm we arrived at Dingli Scouts hq, where we planned
to stay the night. We had lunch and took a short rest.
Some time later my dad and troop helper Raymond Abdilla
joined us. We cleaned part of the campsite and pitched our
tents. We spent the afternoon lazying about getting our
strength back. Then we played freezbee and some games.
Later on we had dinner and at 9.30pm we all went to sleep.
In the morning, we struck down tents, thanked Mr Saviour
Richards – GSL Dingli Scout Group for his hospitality and
started our way back through Dingli Cliffs and down to Ghar
Lapsi. We all called SL and my dad as “Super Humans”
because they did not get tired!! At noon we arrived at Ghar
Lapsi and we were met by Mario and my mother, who drove us
back to our hq in B’Buga. We put our tents back in their
places and went home.
This was my first experience and I am looking forward to
other similar activities. We have strengthened our
friendship and all in all had a great time. Even though
when I got home I could feel every bone in my body aching…….
