The Re-Opening of the Group

1983 / 1984

The group was again formed in December 1983 but officially opened in May 1984. During the first few months, all the members were being trained and taught the law and promise, salutes, marching and all important things a group must know. The Group was made up of the Scouts section only at that time. Meetings were being held in the premises held by the Youth Centre in Our Lady of Sorrow Street.

The Group Scout Leader was Mr John Mizzi helped by Mr Ian Azzopardi (Scout Leader) and Mr Michael Balzia (Assistant Scout Leader).

On May 1984, an official opening of the Group was inaugurated. On that special day a Mass was held at St.Peter Parish Church and all the Commissioners were present. The South District was also invited to attend the ceremony.

After the mass, the Investiture ceremony was held on the square , were 15 young teenagers were invested infront of a nice crowd, who witnessed the ceremony. There was a happy atmosphere and parents of those boys were really happy taking photos of their sons wearing the uniform.

1984 was a really hectic year for the leaders. New friends within the district were being made and in summer of that year, a joint summer camp was organised together with the Naxxar group.

1985

As the group was popular in B'Buga, and teenagers were eager to join, we had requests from the smaller brothers and other youngster to join. Therefore, in January the cubs section was formed. Mr Michael Balzia was the first Cub Scout Leader of the Group. More leaders started to join as well and in March Mr Anthony Xuereb joined as the Scout Leader with the Troop followed by Mrs Josianne Attard who joind the Cub Scout Section as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader.

By the end of the year, both Michael and Josianne left the Group and that left the Cub Scout Section without an Akela. Robert Farrugia, who at that time was a scout showed interest in taking the responsiblity of the cub section and he was appointed as an acting cub scout leader.
